AGNAOU GATE
Survey and Analysis

 

The sampling was performed on the lower part of the gate at a height of about 1.8m to 2.5m and just above the restored section (grey color in the below figure). It is the most deteriorated part and corresponds to the upper limit of the rising damp from underground water.

Two materials were selected for analysis:
samples of original deteriored material and samples representative of material of substitution used during the last restoration intervention.
The first was classified as schist (grey shale with cleavage and fine-grained aggregate).
The second was classified as a metamorphosed siltstone formed in the green-shist facies.
