DECLARATION OF TUNISIA

             On the occasion of the workshop organized by the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona and the National Institute of Patrimony of Tunisia, on the contribution of Science and Technology to the protection of the Cultural Heritage in the Mediterranean Basin, held in Tunis from 9-15 June, 1997, under the auspices of the European Commission and the Tunisian State Ministry for Scientific Research and Technology, the participants have emphasized the increasing role of the Sciences and Technologies for the connaisance, protection, conservation, restoration and valorization of the Cultural Heritage of this region.

             Taking into account the current efforts already committed in this direction by the Euro – Mediterranean Governments, the international organizations such as UNESCO, Council of Europe, ALECSO, ICROM, PACT network, European Foundation of the Artcrafts, the participants expressed their wishes for concrete follow up action of the output of this workshop on a co-operation platform favorizing EURO-MED partnership for the implementation of concerted actions and joint research projects in this domain.
