Free E-BOOKs on the web
-----------------------
(1) A real 'gem' on the web: Motion Mountain Physics Textbook
by Christoph Schiller. You can read the first 200 pages, until
Special Relativity Chapter.
The book has 1129 pages and takes 24 MB.
http://motionmountain.dse.nl/contents.html
(2) Mak Kisevic found a very nice e-book on mechanics:
http://stravinsky.ucsc.edu/josh/5A/book/index.html
"You can browse html pages or you can download it
as a postscript file".
(3) International Baccalaureate in physics
http://homepage.mac.com/stray/ib/
You will find on the page two sets of files:
........IB Chemistry notes and IB Physics notes
Under this line there is a line:
........Download everything as a .zip file.
This last set of files is what you want.
When you are at it download both files and Save
them in their separate folders. Then enter the
folder and start unzipping.
Chemistry may come handy latter.
(4)Less complete but still useful:
http://instruct.tri-c.edu/fgram/physics.htm
BOOK
----
Any college physics book would do. Perhaps the best and the
cheapest is the College Physics from Schaum publishing house.
There exists an e-book format. Amazon charges 11.7 $ for the
e-book. See http://www.amazon.com and seach for College Physics.
This could be useful as a reference for years to come.
WEB Course notes
----------------
A physics course that I would recommend may be found on the
MIT site of open courses: http://ocw.mit.edu/
On the left side you will find Physics - it is located almost
near the bottom of the long page. Click on it.
Go down the page to find a list of courses. The best one to take
is the first course on the list entitled: 8.01 Physics I, Fall 2003.
Click on it.
On the left side you will find Lecture notes. Click on it.
Now you will see two columns of files: Lecture notes and Blackboards.
Download the Lecture notes. Forget Blackboards.
One page back there is also a set of Assignments.

The study will be carried out by the University of Zagreb in cooperation
with the Rudjer Boskovic Institute, the American Chamber of Commerce,
Ministry of Environmental Protection and Physical Planning, Erricsson-Nikola
Tesla and Pliva. GEMS has been endorsed by the Senate of the University and
it has been approved by the Croatian National Council for Higher Education.
It was also presented to the Council of Environmental Deans and Directors,
Washington, D.C., Feb. 1. 2003. and to the major Croatian corporations.
We are happy to report that the study has been accepted with an unusual
measure of enthusiasm.
The study was open on 11 October at the University of Zagreb. On the opening
ceremony we were fortunate to have the following speakers: rector Prof. Jasna
Mencer, director of the R. Boskovic Institute, prof. Stjepan Marcelja,
vice-president of the American Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Mark Gero and
the president of the Republic of Croatia, Mr. Stjepan Mesic.
A) For prospective students
--------------------------
The first group of students has been admitted to the a study.
In case you or your colleagues are interested to apply, please start
preparations for the next year enrolment now, and let us know so we
can plan by having you in mind. Inform your colleagues, they will be
grateful to you for the rest of their life.
Here is the call from this year, one can expect similar call next year
in case students are interested (and that is why students should let us
know starting now). In case you have a problem with any of conditions
below - let us know. Together we may find the solution easier.
Vjesnik, 9.04.2004 and Jutarnji list, on 12.04.2004.

B) For professors
----------------
We are open for discussions with highly qualified academic staff who would
be willing to help in teaching courses listed below. Two professors
(directors), will be in charge of each course, one from abroad and one from
Croatia.
Lectures in English for each course will be held during one week.
Each course will consist of 20 h lectures and 10 h student seminars.
There will be from 15 to 25 students (students from other studies will
also be allowed to take some courses).
Flight tickets, hotel accommodation, per diem, honorarium for lecturing
and teaching material preparation will be provided to each invited professor.
Dubrovnik may be reached by plane from Rome (Italy) or Zagreb (Croatia).
From interested professors we need: 1) up to one page course content,
with 3 to 6 references to the best books, papers, and interenet addresses;
2) CV - up to one page; 3) any material or pointer to the material which
would allow us to judge how the course will be given.
We plan to review the material periodically, so the sooner we receive it,
the sooner we will determine by whom and when will each course be given.
Please send the material to:

We would highly appreciate if you could post this info. where your
colleagues and students can examine the course list below and formulate
their interest either in these or related courses.
C) For donators
--------------
This study has been designed for people in your company. Nothing is more
important then the education of your people. Those who do not know that
have either gone bankrupt or are on that course. This has never been so
evident as it is today. If you have the competitive advantage, you win.
If not, you loose. The competitive advantage is created by the top
educated people.
That is why you should be a major donor to this study. Yet, there are
other important reasons: a significant donation will lead to a seat in
the Council, ensure stronger ties and control of the study, enable
priority and discount to students originating from your company.
